Shopify migration from WooCommerce, PrestaShop and Magento

Catalog, customers, orders and rankings move to Shopify. Your store stays open until the day of the switch.

Shopify Plus Partner. Migrations since 2017, over 150 stores since 2012, 22 5-star reviews.

Where you start

When migrating makes sense

Three signals we often hear in the discovery call.

01

The platform costs more than it earns

Hosting, updates, paid modules and a developer to call every time something breaks.

02

Every update is a risk

A plugin that blocks the checkout, a theme that fails on the new version, and the people who built the site are gone.

03

You want to sell more, and elsewhere

Foreign markets, languages, B2B with reserved price lists: on Shopify they are native features, not separate projects.

The map

What moves to Shopify, and how

Three families of data, each with its own path. Integrations are reconnected before the launch.

What moves to Shopify: catalog, customers and orders, URLs and rankings, from today's store to Shopify Today: your platform Catalog products, variants, prices, images Customers and orders records, consents, order history URLs and SEO every indexed URL, meta tags migration Tomorrow: Shopify Catalog products, variants, collections Customers and orders accounts, consents, visible history URLs and SEO one-to-one redirects, meta, sitemap ERP, invoicing and logistics are reconnected before the launch.

Item by item

What migrates and what is rebuilt

Bringing everything over does not pay: we migrate what has value and rebuild what would carry today's problems along.

Migrates

  • Products and variants: names, descriptions, prices, images, SKUs and stock.
  • Categories: they become collections, with the same sorting rules.
  • Customers: records, addresses, marketing consents and groups, which become tags and segments.
  • Orders: the history, available in the store and in each customer's account.
  • Pages and blog: texts and images, at the same URLs or with a redirect.
  • URLs: every indexed URL points to the new one with a 301 redirect.

Rebuilt or replaced

  • The theme: we start from a premium theme, designed for the smartphone first.
  • Plugins and modules: replaced by native Shopify features or by apps chosen one by one.
  • Passwords: for security they are not exported. Each customer receives an invitation and sets a new one.
  • Discount codes: recreated on Shopify, with the new rules.
  • Payments and shipping: configured from scratch, with Shopify Payments and the carriers.
  • Reviews: they move if the app that collects them exports them. We check this in the analysis.

Where you come from

From WooCommerce, PrestaShop or Magento

Each platform has its own pitfalls. We know them and account for them in the proposal.

From WooCommerce

The most common among small and medium Italian businesses. A WordPress plugin, with hosting and updates on you.

What changes
Attributes and variations become options and variants. The WordPress blog can stay where it is or move to Shopify.
Redirects
URLs are readable: the redirect map is simple and often one to one.
Timing
The fastest migration: usually 30 to 60 days.
Watch out for
Plugins that wrote data outside the standard, and orders with custom statuses.

From PrestaShop

The migration request we receive most often. Combinations, modules and languages make the analysis decisive.

What changes
Combinations become variants. Modules are replaced by native features or apps.
Redirects
URLs contain numeric ids and almost all of them change: the redirect map is the heart of the work.
Timing
45 to 90 days, depending on languages, modules and integrations.
Watch out for
Multistore and multilanguage: on Shopify they become markets and translations, to design before importing.

From Magento

Large catalogs, B2B and multiple stores: the most powerful platform and the most expensive to maintain.

What changes
Attributes and attribute sets become options and metafields. B2B moves to Shopify's native B2B, with companies and price lists.
Redirects
Nested categories and URLs to remap with care: Shopify's structure is flatter.
Timing
Up to 120 days, with the integrations to ERP and warehouse.
Watch out for
Custom code and in-house integrations: they must be listed one by one in the analysis.

We also migrate from bespoke systems and other platforms, such as Storeden or Kooomo: the method is the same, only the data export changes. Is your store already on Shopify and in need of a fresh start? See the relaunch →

The launch

The day of the switch

A window of a few minutes to switch to the new store.

The day of the switch: from pausing the orders to reopening on Shopify 01 Orders paused the old store in maintenance 02 Final import orders and customers from the last days 03 Redirects live 301 map loaded and verified 04 Domain switched DNS updated, email in order 05 Check and reopening test order, then selling If needed we can go back to the old store: it stays active until the check.

The precautions

The precautions that make the switch safe

They are the same in every migration, from the first day of work.

01

Rankings stay

A 301 redirect map for every indexed URL, checked in Search Console before and after the switch.

02

No order gets lost

The switch happens in an agreed window. Orders that arrive in the meantime are imported right after.

03

Customers log in at the first try

An invitation email with the new login, clear texts and support in the first days.

04

The ERP stays connected

Connections are tried in the test environment, with test orders and products, before the launch.

05

The catalog arrives clean

Before the import we remove duplicates, missing images and orphan variants.

06

Emails reach the inbox

Domain and DNS records are set up for transactional emails before the switch.

Timing and costs

How long, how much

Two things we tell you before starting, in writing, in the proposal.

Timing

30 to 120 days

  • From WooCommerce it is the fastest, from Magento the longest: catalog, languages and integrations count.
  • It depends on our workload at the time: we follow a few projects at once.
  • We set the date of the switch together, in the proposal.

Costs

Two project bands, with a detailed quote after the discovery call.

Migration with standard configuration, no integrations
5 to 15 thousand euros
Migration with integrations, B2B or Shopify Plus
20 to 40 thousand euros

The Shopify subscription and apps are separate. See the Shopify plans →

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get before a migration

Short answers. For the rest, there is the discovery call.

How much does a migration to Shopify cost?
5 to 15 thousand euros for a migration with standard configuration, 20 to 40 thousand euros with integrations, B2B or Shopify Plus. The detailed quote comes after the discovery call, with activities and timing in writing.
How long does a migration to Shopify take?
30 to 120 days. From WooCommerce usually within 60 days, from PrestaShop 45 to 90, from Magento up to 120 with the integrations. We set the date of the switch in the proposal.
Will I lose my Google rankings?
No, as long as every indexed URL points to the new one with a 301 redirect and the content stays the same. We prepare the map before the switch and check it in Search Console in the following weeks.
Does the store stay open during the migration?
Yes. The new store is built in a test environment while the old one keeps selling. It stops only for the switch window, a few minutes, at an agreed time.
What happens to my customers?
Records, addresses, consents and order history move to Shopify. Passwords do not, for security: each customer receives an invitation and sets a new one at the first login.
Can I keep my domain?
Yes. The domain stays yours and on the day of the switch it points to Shopify, with email continuing to work.
What happens to plugins, modules and customisations?
They are not transferred. In the analysis we list them one by one and replace them with native Shopify features or apps chosen to last, so the store stays simple to maintain.
Will my ERP and invoicing keep working?
Yes. We reconnect ERP, invoicing and logistics to Shopify and try them in the test environment, with test orders and products, before the launch.
Which platforms do you migrate from?
WooCommerce, PrestaShop and Magento are the most frequent. We also migrate from bespoke systems and other platforms: the data export changes, not the method.
Do I need Shopify Plus to migrate?
No. It is needed only for high volumes, complex B2B or a customised checkout. For most migrations the Grow or Advanced plans are enough.

To start

What we need from you

Four things, and the migration starts on the right foot.

  • Access: current platform, domain and systems to connect
  • A contact person who decides and replies within a reasonable time
  • The list of plugins, modules and integrations you actually use
  • A clear idea of what must stay the same and what you want to change

Let's talk about your migration

A half-hour discovery call, no strings attached: you tell us where you start from and we tell you what the switch involves.
